Abstract:
The investigation of the structure and mechanical properties of the intermetallic Ni3Al fabricated by spark plasma sintering of mechanically activated Ni and Al powders with zirconium addition in an amount of 0.1 and 1 wt.% are conducted. A single Ni3Al phase is formed in the compacts with milled powders and with different zirconium content. Relative density of all sintered samples is ~97 %. Microhardness of the sintered Ni3Al is 6.1 GPa. Microhardness of the sintered Ni3Al with zirconium addition is ~6.5 GPa. The results show that spark plasma sintering at 1100°C of the powder mixture Ni3Al with zirconium addition in an amount of 1 wt.% after mechanical alloying for three minutes leads to the formation of material with the value of bending strength equal to 930 MPa.
