Abstract: Forming a high-quality metallic coating on a ceramic substrate remains a challenge. The existing layered ceramic-metal composites (LCMCs) used in electrical engineering and electronics still suffer from low ceramic-to-metal bond strength (adhesion). In the present work, we shown that, in LCMCs formed by the detonation spraying technique, adhesion between the layers of up to 70 MPa can be achieved, which exceeds that in composites obtained by other metallization methods. The proposed approach is based on the layer-by-layer building of a ceramic layer on a metallic substrate. This approach was successfully used to fabricate alumina-copper LCMCs.
