Abstract: Using low-inertia thermal batteries placed in the gap between the plates, the thermal effect of the impact of shock-compressed gas on the surface of the plates before impact was determined at distances of 0.4–1.3 m from the start of welding. The speed of the shock wave front in the air at different contact point speeds was determined using a photoelectric method. Using targets placed in the welding gap, it was found that the area of shock-compressed gas in front of the contact point is filled with ultra-dispersed (50–200 nm) metal particles formed from a dispersed cumulative jet, which significantly affect the parameters of the shock-compressed gas, such as temperature, shock wave front speed, compared to those calculated using the shock adiabat.
