Abstract: The possibility of formation of a wear-resistant surface layer on chromium-nickel stainless steel sheets by electron beam cladding of boron-containing powder mixtures is investigated. The heating is conducted by a beam of relativistic electrons released into the air atmosphere. The cladding is followed by hot rolling. The structure, the phase composition, the microhardness and the wear resistance of the boron-modified surface layer of the steel is determined. It is shown that the structure of the surface layer after the deformation depends on the composition of the deposited powder and determines the strength and ductility properties of the “modified layer – base metal” composition.
