Abstract:
The contact problem describing a railway vehicle — road — track ballast system is under our investigation. During the motion, the rolling stock (snowpiercer) is represented by a moving localized load, the road by a Timoshenko beam, and the track bed material is rigorously modeled using 3-by-3 matrices of stress and strain rate. To ensure physical consistency, the Kolymbas-type hypoplasticity theory well-suited for cohesionless granular materials is applied to describe the ballast. As a result, the normal stress and shear stress on the interface between the rail bottom and ballast are analytically derived from the closed-form solution to the nonlinear hypoplastic diferential equation.
