Abstract:
Theoretical studies of the acoustic resonance properties of open pore materials with capillary-trapped liquid medium in the pore constrictions are carried out. These studies has a good agreement with known experimental investigations. It is shown that heterogeneous media have low-frequency resonance properties due to the natural vibrations of the capillary-trapped liquid inclusions. A mathematical model of natural oscillations of capillary-trapped liquid inclusions in porous material is proposed. It is shown that the oscillations of the capillary-trapped liquid inclusion can be caused by the changes in the curvature of the meniscus and the movement of the triple contact points. Analytical expressions for the natural frequencies of oscillations are obtained. It is shown that the oscillation frequencies depend on the pore size distribution, on the angles at the triple contact point, on the surface tension, and on the mass of the capillary-trapped liquid. It has been shown that capillary-trapped liquid globules may have low-frequency resonance properties. The results of theoretical investigations have been compared with the experimental studies on the displacement of a capillary-trapped liquid from a porous sample under externally applied acoustic field. The effect of anomalous displacement of a capillary-trapped liquid at certain frequencies of the applied acoustic field was detected. Keywords: sound absorption materials, resonance phenomena
